A Taste of Guatemala
The Taste of Guatemala event highlights the rich cuisine, the mystical culture and regal beauty of the Mayan Indian people of Guatemala. The event features tipica dishes from Guatemala like chile rellenos, vegetable rice and guacamole punctuated with a refreshing Famosa Guatemalan beer.
Food is prepared by several Guatemalan women led by Francisca "Guicha" Ajcibinaj Cocon, the director of the Women's Center in San Lucas Toliman and Berta Hamilton de Leon Muxtay.
Guicha and Berta worked for many years in the kitchen of the San Lucas mission where they helped a team of women prepare meals for the visitors and volunteers to San Lucas Toliman.
Attendees have raved about the unique flavor of the prepared dishes and enjoyed the famous Guatemalan hospitality.
